The City of Light

Today, we woke up in Paris, fulfilling a dream I’ve had for so many years. We only had one thing planned today, at 2 pm, so we had lots of time to wander. Our hotel includes breakfast, which was simple but delicious. We have croissants and Nutella at home, but they seemed so much more delicious here. The Nutella is way less sweet, and the croissants have a different texture.

We took the metro a few stops and got off to walk around. We saw a really cool old building, but we don’t know what it is.

The kids really liked this sculpture.

We went to one of the covered passages in Paris, Galleries Vivienne. It was gorgeous and we had fun window shopping. One of the shops had incredible fancy dresses.

We stopped at a little park with a fountain that seemed to be dedicated to French rivers.

We stopped for lunch at a cafe where I had maybe the best salad of my life. I’m not even sure what was in it, because the waiter who recommended it was a little vague, but I think that’s grilled goat cheese on top. And River had a really good pasta thing.

It was almost two, so we headed over to Trocodero to meet our photographer. We haven’t had family photos taken for a while, so I thought it would be really cool to do it in Paris on my 50th birthday. the views from there were incredible and I can’t wait to see the photos. Here are a couple I snapped though.

The kids were in a really fun, goofy mood, and the photographer was lovely.

Since we were kind of in the area, we went to see the Arc de Triomphe. We took the metro, then walked under the street to the little island in the center. It was interesting to stand in the center and see the circular road all around, with all of those roads going out from it.

Right near there, we found a street cart selling crepes, and we got some sweet treats. We tried each others’ flavors, so we had salted caramel, banana and Nutella, speculoos, and butter sugar and lemon. They were all so delicious.

After our treats, we were walking along the Seine and noticed stairs going down to the water. Of course the kids HAD to go down.

We headed toward Notre Dame, and our metro stop was at Hotel Deville. It was so fancy from the outside, and it looks like they’ll be hosting some Olympics people.

Notre Dame is still closed and under heavy construction to fix the damage from the fire. we found a cute little uncrowded park nearby where the kids played with the birds and other kids while we sat looking for dinner ideas.

The restaurant we found ended up being right across the street from our hotel. We had savory crepes that were so good. The kids showed us a game they had made up, and someone came by playing clarinet on the street.

Here’s some random Paris atmosphere.
