Polynesian Cultural Center

The whole time we were on Kauai, Willow wanted to get matching mommy and me dresses. We looked a bit there but didn’t find anything, and we looked on Oahu but had no luck. Then, this morning, on our last day on the island, we found some! She was so happy. She insisted that we wear them today.

We spent our last day on Oahu at the Polynesian Cultural Center. It’s touristy, but we had a great time and learned so much about history and culture on some of the islands.

We liked Samoa a lot – the kids liked the hands on activities which included trying to make fire by rubbing wood together and making a fish toy out of coconut leaves. They showed us how to climb a coconut palm and we tried to spin fire sticks.

Tonga had a funny presentation where bill got up on stage and was a really good sport. I love that he’s not afraid to be silly.

We went canoeing in a traditional Tongan canoe, which was harder work than we expected. We lost a race to a bunch of adults, which surprised nobody. Their was a parade on the central waterway that showcased traditional dances from each island, which was really cool.

Fiji had a kind of bowling, which the kids loved. It was pretty tricky.

The end of a vacation is always bittersweet – we don’t want the fun to end, but it will be so nice to sleep in our own beds.
